This course will train the private citizen on the proper application of the handgun/flashlight for positive threat identification and navigation, while ensuring light discipline. This course also covers proper search and shooting techniques with a handgun/flashlight or a weapon mounted light.
Course Content will Include:
- Principles of low light training
- Choosing the proper light source (hand held or weapon mounted)
- One is none, two is one strategy
- Nights sights, laser sights; their advantages and the myths
- Weapon mounted lights; their advantages and limitations
- Shooting drills, including barricade and positional shooting
- Safe and proper movement drills, using light discipline
Equipment Needed:
- Clean and oiled semi-auto pistol or revolver
- 2 mags for each pistol or 2 speed loaders for the revolver
- A suitable holster that must cover the trigger guard of the handgun.
- 150 rounds of ammunition
- Eye and ear protection
Note: Flashlights will be provided if the student does not have one.

$100 tuition per student,
plus $20 range entrance fee.
The purpose of this course is to train the student on how to effectively use the flashlight as a tool for personal defense. The compact flashlight has gained recognition from tactical instructors as an effective, less than lethal option, for personal defense.
This course is designed to be informative and effective, yet simple and flexible. The student will learn how to effectively use a bright light in a darkened environment, and also use the flashlight, if needed, as a defensive striking tool. This course is also suitable for students, (ages 16-20 yrs old) who are out during the hours of darkness (i.e. work, school, etc.).
Course Content will Include:
- Principles of personal defense
- Awareness and avoidance
- Dispelling the myths of Darkness
- The flashlight as a defensive tool
- Choosing the proper light
- Using the flashlight to navigate, locate, identify, and encounter
- Using the light to distract or disorient (blind)
- Striking techniques for defense
- Creating distance vs counter attack
- Reporting use of force incidents
- Crisis rehearsal techniques (willingness and preparedness)
- Maintaining situational awareness
Equipment Needed:
- Flashlight (we will provide them for course use only)
- Pen and paper for note taking
